Mr. Calvert Wright has arrived as Mayfair’s new Assistant Principal! He’s excited to be part of the community and looks forward to supporting students and staff while helping the school continue to grow. With a strong passion for education and a dedication to making a meaningful impact, Mr. Wright is eager to collaborate with the faculty and students of Mayfair.

Q: How has your experience at Mayfair been so far?

A: “So far it’s been very, very pleasant; everyone is warm and welcoming and has really made me feel a part of the entire campus already.”

Q: What made you decide to work at our school?

A: “I interviewed for the position; it was number two in the district, and I initially thought I was going to Bellflower High, but as I was signing my paperwork, I was informed that I was actually going to Mayfair, which I wanted because I actually have family members and relatives that attend this school currently.”

Q: Do you think there’s room for improvement at Mayfair? If so, what?

A: “I think there’s room for improvement anywhere you go. I think Mayfair’s doing a lot of wonderful things, and at this point I’m just looking to see how we can refine in all forms and offer even more services and more activities to the student body.”

Q: How does it feel to be working in a completely new district?

A: “I like it. I’m fine with it; I don’t have the nerves that most people have going into a new situation. I like change, so to me this is a new challenge with new sets of information that I have to learn and get used to. I like it. And I’m enjoying myself.”

Q: When did you realize you wanted to pursue a career in education?

A: “I would say this was well over twenty years ago. In college, I played basketball, so part of our community service was to actually read to elementary school students, and so I and my best friend were assigned to an elementary class to read a story, and we had so much fun in that setting with those students, so I kind of knew then that I would like to pursue a career in that type of environment, so I started attending summer youth camps and taking more opportunities to engage with students, so I think during that time I kind of knew that I was towards education and how far I would go towards that.”

Q: What keeps you motivated?

A: “That’s a hard question for me to answer, but I am a former athlete, so I think a lot of that motivation was instilled at a very early age, so it’s sustaining now, and now that I have the same motivations, wants, and desires, I use that to keep me going in education.”

On behalf of The Windjammer, we warmly welcome Mr. Wright as our new Assistant Principal. We’re excited to have him here at Mayfair and look forward to his contributions to our school!
