A bright welcome back from Mayfair High School to one of our student teachers and Mayfair alumni of 2018, Ms. Swearingen. Joining us for this first semester, Ms. Swearingen is a high school student teacher for English paired with Mrs. Valenzuela. She has put in the hard work so let's get to know her a bit more.

Q: What University do you go to and where are you now?

A: “I go to Cal State Dominguez Hills; I got my Bachelors in English with a concentration in literature.”

Q: What inspired you to teach English?

“I love English and I think in high school I found a love for it! I also found a love working for kids… it comes very easy to me now and I want to teach kids that.”

Q: Why did you come back to Mayfair to student teach?

“Mrs. Valenzuela made me feel very comfortable… when you have someone like her very when she is very positive (it's very easy).”

Q: What is your next step after student teaching?

“So I will be done in December which means I'll get my credential in the middle of December… most likely going to sub for the next semester.”

Q: What classes do you teach right now?

“We teach ERW 12 and ERW 11. We have three senior classes, two junior classes and then the writing center.”

This was the interview done to student teacher/alumni Ms. Swearingin. As a reminder, student teachers do the job of a teacher for free for six months in order to get her teaching credentials, so it's not an easy task. She is working hard in getting her credential, so if you see her by room 204, say hi to our amazing student teacher. Remember once a Monsoon, always a Monsoon! Let us thank Ms. Swearingin for returning back home and hope she has an amazing semester.
