Lakewood Hall of Fame 2025

Writer: Chibuike IwuanyanwuChibuike Iwuanyanwu

Every year, Lakewood holds a banquet to honor some of the most accomplished youth athletes and teams in the city. It’s a monumental honor that few receive, and this year there were a number of Mayfair athletes that had the privilege of receiving that honor and having their names etched in history. Here are the students that were chosen to become part of the Lakewood Youth Hall of Fame for 2025, as well as the thoughts of some of the recipients about their experience at the event.

Award Reflections

Daleyna Le - “When I first heard I would be receiving this honor, I was honestly incredibly shocked. I did not think that I could be acknowledged by such a prestigious event, but I was proud to know that my efforts from the past season had been recognized. I was also very excited because my former teammates had also been recognized by the Lakewood Hall of Fame, and I felt happy to be included among them because I looked up to them so much when they were still on the tennis team. The atmosphere at the event was incredible. Everything from the decorations to the ceremony and speeches was so well done and really made us athletes feel special. The whole event was a wonderful experience and really highlighted the importance of athletics and recognizing student athletes.”

Alyssa Prado - “I felt very shocked that I was one of the nominees from the lakewood hall of fame, but it felt nice getting recognized by my own city for my hard work I put in that year.”

Ellie Bartschi - “When I first heard that I was receiving the Performer of the Year Award for Swimming, I was surprised. I didn't even know my coach had nominated me for the award. I didn't know what to expect when I arrived at the event and to be honest, it was a little overwhelming. There were a lot of people there from the community and the schools that were represented in the Hall of Fame. I felt honored to be receiving the award. I know there are a lot of other great swimmers out there that are also worthy of the award. I have been swimming for the past nine years at Lakewood Aquatics and never thought I would have the opportunity to swim in high school. I am thankful that we are able to have a team here at Mayfair, and that we were able to make it into the Hall of Fame.”

Izel Ramirez - “When I first heard I was receiving this honor of scholar athlete of the year, I wasn’t well informed as to what it was or its importance. It was only when I got to the event where I realized how special it was. At the event, we celebrated many people who received awards in different categories. People spoke on mics, sharing their stories and experiences. I learned about all of the hard work that athletes in our area put into their sport and it was really inspiring. I am so grateful to have been a part of the celebration.”
