When the Los Angeles Lakers took on the Milwaukee Bucks on a four-game homestand, the Lakers had one concerning problem: injury. Four of the Lakers five starters were sidelined with injuries, along with a couple of other key players: LeBron James, Luka Doncic, Rui Hachimura, and Austin Reaves, Jarred Vanderbilt, and Dorian Finney-Smith. That meant that any and everyone who was available, would have to step up and try to mitigate the loss of all those great players. Although the Lakers lost on a blowout of 89-118, Bronny James, a rookie who appears to be struggling as a professional, had the best game of his NBA career so far.
The rookie finished the game with: 17 points, 3 rebounds, 5 assists, and went 7-10 from the field. Bronny hasn’t been the best NBA player overall; averaging about 5 minutes a game and about 2 points any game he plays. Because of these stats, Bronny has been playing for the G-League; getting called to on some of the Lakers’ road trips at times. Since the Lakers would be down a few players, he was called up to play with the team; let’s just say he took advantage of the extra minutes.
Yes, Bronny had a great game, however, if you really think about it: does he really deserve a round of applause? Probably not. Nowadays, players in the league are dropping around 30, 40 points a game; sometimes even scoring about 20 points in the first quarter. Many NBA fans believe that Bronny is getting all of this attention because his father is considered to be one of the greatest basketball players of all time. If LeBron James wasn’t his father, would he still get praised for the bare minimum? Probably not. It’s not fair that Bronny James could miss any and every shot he takes, barely get any playing time, turn the ball over many times and still get a standing ovation when he enters the game. Becoming a crowd favorite should be earned; it shouldn’t be because your dad made a name for himself, and all his fans fall into a fondness for you when you haven’t done anything to deserve the validation.
I’m not saying Bronny James is not capable of becoming a great player; of course, with practice, dedication, and determination you can accomplish anything you set your mind to. I’m just saying that just because Bronny had the type of game every other rookie has, he doesn’t really deserve to be the talk of the NBA. Yeah, there is a huge improvement from the start of his season to now, but I feel that Lakers should let Bronny earn his spot as a fan favorite rather than just praising him just because of his dad
