Dear Margot: Finding Light in the Darkness

Writer: MargotMargot

Dear Margot,

“I need some advice on how to be more positive. I bite everything in a negative light and would like to see positivity in life.”

Hey, reader! I’ve had many ask this question before, and it makes sense why. There are many things in life that can make many situations seem bleak and negative, and it’s easy to stay that way. However, it’s equally possible to see the good in life regardless of the negative things that may occur. Here are some things I recommend:

  • Stay in the moment: A lot of the reasons why people see things in the negative light is because they are constantly thinking about the future. An antidote to that is to try and stay in the present moment. By allowing yourself to be immersed in what’s going on around you, your mind is free of any negative thoughts that may linger from constantly looking ahead, leading to more positive thoughts in the long run.

  • Celebrate your wins: When things go wrong, it’s easy to only focus on the negatives. It’s important to remember, however, that most situations have pros as well as cons. When these types of situations arise, it’s equally important to acknowledge what went right so as to keep a positive light in even the most dire of situations.

  • Positive self-talk: Your inner monologue is probably your most powerful part of your attitude, so it's important that it’s used positively. Throughout your day, try and incorporate positive affirmations into your inner monologue, or even say them out loud.

Hope this helps!

Margot
