A suspect was arrested for four fatal shootings that included unprovoked killings of three unhoused men in the Los Angeles Area and one murder in San Dimas, California. Police linked all these shootings to one man named Jerrid Joseph Powell. Powell has been charged since then for the connection with the recent shootings and killings.
These murders occurred in over a 4 day span from November 26-29. On Saturday, the police confirmed that the suspect was linked to these murders and arrested him. Jerrid Powell is a 33 year old male charged with four counts of murder, one count of being a felon with a firearm, and one count of residential robbery. Besides this, he is also facing a “special circumstance” for allegedly committing multiple murders, as people were also calling him a serial killer.
He appeared in court Monday morning and ultimately ended up waiving his right to a speedy trial, giving him and his public attorney more time. The next court date is set for January 8, 2024.
The three homeless men that he shot and murdered were identified as a 37-year old man, a 62-year-old man, and a 52-year-old man. For the murder that occurred in San Dimas, Powell followed the man to his garage, robbed him and brutally shot the man to death in his own home. The man killed was Nicholas Simbolon, a father of 2, dead at the age of 42.
Police are still working to identify the motive behind the four killings of Powell and the investigation will continue until they find out more behind this. If convicted he will face a charge of life in prison.
