Community School Initiative

Community School Initiative is a community where people can share valuable resources to help students in need.

Q: What inspired you to create a community school initiative?

“That's a great question! So I did not create the community school initiative. It's actually a part of the Lakewood and Los Angeles County Office of Education and it’s their initiative. The purpose is to create community schools to build equity for students by highlighting areas of need and to provide resources that way students are healthy, prepare for college and be ready for life after highschool.”

Q: What other things would you like to bring to the Mayfair community?

“In the short time I’ve been here, about three months now, I really love the community of Mayfair and the traditions and cultures that it has. I hope to bring and build on that community. I would like to continue to meet new people and meet more families and students and make sure that I'm bringing the resources from outside the walls of Mayfair and just overall build a positive environment for all students here.”

Q: What do you expect students to graduate with after joining this community?

“Great question. I think a well rounded student that is willing to be successful and open to making positive changes in the world. I’m hoping to inspire students to do that and there’s so many wonderful teachers and courses here and I want to build upon that and just make sure our students are prepared to do well but also be able to change the world.”

Q: Do you think you will make an impact on Mayfair?

“I hope so. Being that I’m very new here and have only been here for three months I’m hoping that I can inspire students. I hope that my experience in the past will help me build relationships and help students but also making sure that they have access and have the right tools and the belief in themselves to do well and I hope to do that each day at a time.”

Q: Do you plan on expanding this? If so, how?

“Absolutely, this is our first year of doing community school initiatives. We have more team members coming in, we have a case manager coming in soon as well, but yes we definitely wanna expand. We wanna be here for the long haul and we want to make sure we can support the community but also bring the resources in and help all of our students and help forward and thrive our community.”
