Britney Spears, also known as the Princess of Pop, has gone through many eras since she debuted in 1998. Though many of her diehard fans would know she’s been around much before that, Britney and alongside many other superstars such as Christina Aguilera, Ryan Gosling and even her former boyfriend Justin Timberlake. After a few years, Britney was scouted and signed to an agency, and then on January, 12th 1999 …Baby One More Time dropped, which forever changed Britney’s life.
Her first year into her pop career, she was invited to sing at several festivals, many talk shows and even got to sing at the Kid’s and Teen’s Choice Awards in ‘99. Britney even got to do her first ever headlining tour as well! Towards the end of the year, Britney was starting to transform from your goody girl next girl to more of a pop diva and more glamorous and we really get to see this in her Oops!…I Did It Again era. During this era, Britney did a lot of press going to places like Japan, Paris and much more, but what really sealed the deal that said Britney was here and here to stay was her MTV Video Music Awards of 2000 performance which truly set the standard of what an MTV music award performance should be.
As years went by, she did other tours and iconic performances and even met her disgraceful husband (at the time) Kevin Federline during her Onyx Hotel Tour in 2004. They eventually got married and had two kids together but then on November 7th, 2006, Britney had filed for divorce from Kevin Federline thus beginning the downward spiral of Britney Spears.
From late 2006 to early 2008, Britney was harassed, publicly humiliated, sexually harassed, and had major invasion of privacy and so much more all from the paparazzi and the public. Later throughout 2008, Britney was placed under a conservatorship, and for those who don’t know what a conservatorship is, a conservatorship is when a judge allows another person to act or make decisions for the person who needs help. Once the conservatorship started, Britney’s life started to become way different then it was before; she started to have less interviews and no creative freedom on any of her albums.
From 2009 till 2018, Britney was non stop working, constantly on tour and even had a Vegas residency where she’d always be performing until 2019 when she went on hiatus and then soon after the COVID pandemic hit, during 2020 people started to notice something was off about Britney. Thus beginning the #FreeBritney movement, after many months of people digging and begging for Britney’s freedom on November 12th, 2021 Britney was freed from her conservatorship after 14 years. As of 2023, Britney is recently divorced yet living her life.
