9/11: A Day to Remember

Today marks the 23rd anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. A day in history that no one will ever forget. On September 11, 2001, over 2,000 died that day, making it one of the deadliest events in history. Each year not only we honor the brave first responders who put themselves in harm's way to save the lives of people, but we also honor those innocent lives that were lost that day.

  Four planes were hijacked with plans to crash them into popular areas like the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and the Capital. Fortunately, the Capital was not hit because the brave passengers of Flight United 93 tried to regain control of the plane. They ended up crashing into a field in Pennsylvania but their heroic actions helped save the Capital and the people in it. 

When the planes hit the Twin Towers, many people who were on the top floors were trapped and could not access the stairs to get out. This caused many people to have to choose between getting burned alive or falling to their death. First responders tried everything they could to save as many people as they could even knowing that they too could lose their lives. 

              Everyone around the towers came together and tried to help as many people as possible, even though they did not have to. Even if it included praying with someone, helping them escape the wreckage or doing what they could to ease their wounds. No one allowed anyone to feel alone that day because they knew each and everyone was suffering. 

             Even though 9/11 was a tragic event that still affects people today, it brought many people together in a good way. Teaching us that the world is better when we all come together and support each other when times are tough. We will forever be grateful for those who risked death to save others.
